The VSDMS Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) were developed by Lightspeed Software to extend file and system access without requiring the programmer to become familiar with VS or Lightspeed API programming. This represents a significant enhancement in terms of usability over earlier Lightspeed API libraries, as previous versions required code to be written on both the VS system as well as the client.
